Maintenance and care of your piano

To maintain your piano properly you need to have a qualified piano tuner/technician like me to tune your piano at least twice a year. For new pianos, or newly restored pianos, tuning should be done four times a year for the first two years. Then go to twice a year tunings after that.

For pianos that haven't been tuned, or serviced in many years a succession of two to three tunings would need to be performed within a month apart from each other in order to get your instrument up to standard pitch which we call A-440.

If you have me service your piano twice a year, I will not only adjust the strings to the right tension, but will also check it to see if any potential problems are foreseen in the future. Of course the sooner a potential problem is detected and taken care of early, usually major work can be avoided.

Pianos are constructed mainly of wood that expands in the summer from excess humidity, and contracts in the winter because of excess dryness.

I strongly recommend climate control systems which are made solely for pianos. I install these systems and have great success with major change in stability of tunings once installed in my clients' pianos.

If you were a client of mine I would be happy to send you a reminder, either by mail or e-mail, to have your piano tuned or serviced at any time interval that you would desire.
